2-month drug-related investigation results in 30 arrests

California authorities have reported that 30 people were taken into custody and about one pound of heroin, 10 guns, three vehicles and $80,000 in cash were seized following a two-month investigation. Authorities in Ventura County had reportedly been investigating drug trafficking organizations since February 2012, as there have been more than 1,819 reported overdoses.

The investigation was launched in January in Ventura County after deputies discovered that there was an alleged drug delivery service that was actively delivering heroin to customers multiple times every day. A 45-year-old Los Angeles resident was accused of being the head of the service and a dispatcher, meaning he was allegedly responsible for dispatching the drivers when a drug delivery was needed. Three drivers were also identified as a 34-year-old man, a 21-year-old man and a 27-year-old man.

The 21-year-old was taken into custody on Jan. 12. On March 8, search warrants were issued for the other two drivers and for the 45-year-old head of the alleged delivery service. All three were taken into custody after evidence of drug possession and drug sales were found. Eventually, four dealers and 22 customers were also taken into custody.

The consequences associated with drug crimes are often severe, especially in areas that experience large amounts of drug activity. Even so, the authorities responsible for investigating alleged drug crimes are still responsible for following specific procedures, especially when it comes to search and seizures. A criminal law attorney may open an independent investigation into the procedures the authorities followed. If there is evidence that the search and seizure was illegal or the authorities violated the accused person's rights in any way, the attorney may seek to have the charges reduced or dismissed.
