Criminal Defense From A Former Prosecutor

Former NFL QB in California jail for second time this year

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, former NFL standout Todd Marinovich was taken into custody on March 23. This incident was not the former quarterback's first brush with law enforcement.

According to news sources, the cause for the arrest of Marinovich isn't available. His release is scheduled for May 3. This incident is at least Marinovich's second arrest since the start of the year; the former NFL star was also taken into custody on March 19 and released the same day. Media reports do not reflect the reason for that arrest either.

The 48-year-old former quarterback has reportedly been sober since a 2016 arrest. In that incident, Marinovich was found naked in a neighbor's backyard with a bag allegedly containing marijuana and methamphetamine. For that incident, he was cited for possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and trespassing. Under the plea deal reached for those charges, Marinovich needed to stay out of trouble for 36 months to avoid additional jail time. His drug issues have been a matter of public record since his 1990 arrest for cocaine possession months before entering the NFL draft.

Criminal charges related to drug crimes can be daunting. An individual who has been arrested could be facing fines, community service and even incarceration. An attorney with experience in criminal defense law may be able to help that individual manage the criminal justice process. An attorney might negotiate a plea bargain favorable to that individual. If a plea bargain isn't possible or desirable, the attorney may take the case to trial in front of a jury in an effort to obtain an acquittal on all charges.
